Summary0000341: Despite "don't lose any image content" removing black bars removes content in full screen
DescriptionI have "if black bars change pick one zoom factor" to "...which doesn't lose any image content" but I still lose image content in full screen (non-exclusive) mode.

A also have "if there are big black bars" "... zoom the bars away completely" and "zoom small black bars away" and "crop black bars" and "notify media player about cropped black bars" "...immediately after every change".

What I really want is some mode which attempts to reduce black bars, but not so radically, still left _full_ image content visible in full screen (non-exclusive).

Could you do something with that, please?

I'm confused about what you really want. You say you want to reduce black bars, but you also say that you want the *full* image content to be visible. You cannot reduce the black bars if you want the full image content to be visible. That's like saying you want to get a bit wet, but you want to stay completely dry at the same time. You have to make up your mind whether you want black bars reduced or whether you want the full image content to be visible. It's not possible to do both at the same time.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you?

That option always removes *all* (big) black bars. I don't think that is what you want?

I mean possible cases, of course, when both black bars can be removed and content can be preserved. Like 16:9 video encoded in 4:3 box with top/down black bars. This case is simplest one, but in the wild I see complex enough cases. From usability view point, having option which always preserve content and automatically gray out other options which can overwrite it, will be good.

Thanx for explaining "if there are big black bars" option, I'll uncheck it it.

Ah, so you just don't want any pillarboxing (which means black bars all around the image on all 4 sides). Is that correct? If so, I'd recommend the following settings:

1) In MPC-HC choose "touch window from inside".
2) In madVR's "zoom control", activate "automatically detect hard coded black bars" and "crop black bars". Uncheck all other options.
3) If you don't want hard coded subtitles in black bars to be removed, activate the option "keep bars visible if they contain subtitles".
4) If you want MPC-HC to adjust its window size automatically to the active video rect (minus black bars), activate the option "notify media player about cropped black bars". Also setup MPC-HC as suggested in this post:

I think this should do exactly what you want. Well, at least if I understood what you want correctly. I'm not sure that I do. Because after every one of your posts I have a different impression of what you want... :-)

Yes. I always want film content fully visible and, only if possible, remove all black bars around it.

Sorry, probably my English is not good enough.

Thanx for the settings you recommend. In most cases they works as I want, but... I have some old films in my collection from VHS, 16:9 in 4:3 box with black bars in the top/bottom. I notice jumping with your settings. I.e whole content sometimes jumps up, sometimes down, I suppose it depends of the noise on black bars. For full-width content there is no sense to remove one of the bar with jumping there and will be better to stay on the center as it was.

Well, the only way I can do something about that is if you send me some video samples, so I can reproduce the problem on my own PC.

Notice content jump down here in the full screen (or reducing the bottom in window mode)

In the same movie similar jump up happens, but I forget the place. Fast forward/backward does not show that jumps only normal playing.

Sorry for the very late reply. Just wanted to download your file and test it, but it seems to be deleted (no surprise after more than 2 years). Do you still have this issue and want it fixed? Then a new sample might be helpful. That said, old VHS recordings are really difficult to handle because they can have very noisy black bars which may seem like true image content to madVR. If I try to fix that, in some other situations maybe madVR will not be sensitive enough and think that there are black bars while there's really true content there.
