Summary | 0000425: Focus on windows outside the FSE display
Description | Blight suggested to log this here, as it appears to be a madVR issue rather than a player issue. The basic issue is that windows outside the FSE dislay - on systems with multiple displays I mean - have focus issues while madVR is open in FSE mode on the other display.
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Open Zoom Player, ensure it is using madVR and FSE mode is enabled. 2. Fullscreen Zoom Player to display 0000002, and start a video playing. 3. When madVR switches to FSE mode, hit Alt+L to open the Zoom playlist window, which should open on display 0000001. 4. Now try and click the 'x' button to close the playlist window. In my case, the playlist window does not respond to mouse clicks, though pressing Esc will close it. 5. Disable FSE and repeat the test - the playlist window does now respond to mouse click, indicating the problem is with FSE.

Do ZP's other video renderers have FSE capability, so you could double check if they have the same issue or not? I've seen other users report similar issues, but atm I believe this is a GPU driver or Direct3D limitation. I've usually asked those users to try reproduce this with other video renderers or even games, but so far nobody followed up with such a test. |
As far as I know, none of the other renderers Zoom supports have a FSE mode - if you know otherwise, let me know and I can test them. This is the list Zoom supports natively (it can support custom renderers not in the list, but you would have to find one with FSE mode and install it first, and I'm not aware of any renderers except for madVR that have this): Standard Overlay Overlay Mixer VMR7 VMR9 Windowed VMR9 Windowless VMR9 Renderless Haali's EVR madVR |
It's possible to run VMR7/9 and EVR in FSE mode, but I don't know if ZP supports that. Do you have a game which supports running in FSE mode on a secondary monitor? If so, you could double check if the same issue occurs in that situation. Alternatively you could try MPC-HC with VMR9 or EVR in FSE mode, to see if it shows the same problems. That would also prove that it's the GPU driver or Direct3D which is the problem, and not madVR. |
Just checked with bLight, and Zoom doesn't use custom presenters with VMR or EVR, so can't check from within Zoom sadly. Games I have aplenty, most of them running in some form of fullscreen mode, not sure if any of them can do the secondary display though. I will give MPC a shot - assuming it has a sub-window (like the playlist) that I can open on the other display while it is open. |
Does that "sub window" have to belong to the media player? Does the problem only occur if you try to use a ZP window? Does it not occur when trying to use a different application? Anyway, MPC-HC does have a playlist window. |
It does have to belong to the player, yes. Problem only occurs if I use a Zoom window. I checked MPC - the playlist is part of the MPC window, and can't be detached that I can see, so that is a dead end. |
I can detach the MPC-HC playlist just fine. |
Ah, didn't know that. Ok, same problem with it, playlist is not clickable. In fact, I can't even get a context menu when I right click the MPC window itself. |
Is that with madVR or another renderer? The key test is to try the same with MPC-HC and VMR9 or EVR to double check whether the problem is specific to madVR or not. If the same problem occurs with VMR9 or EVR, then that would highly suggest that it's a GPU driver or OS/Direct3D limitation. P.S: Of course VMR9 or EVR in FSE mode!! |
Yes, it was EVR - I couldn't find an option in MPC that specifically said "FSE" or "exclusive", so I ticked the nearest thing I thought it may be, "D3D Fullscreen". |
Ah ok. So that pretty much proves that it's not madVR's fault, right? It's probably a limitation of the OS/Direct3D. It could also be specific to the GPU driver, I'm not sure. At least I don't think there's much we can do about it, unfortunately. |
Yes, sadly it appears not to be a madVR fault (I say sadly, because you would likely fix it, whereas I'm fairly sure this is not going to be fixed). |
Ok, then I'll close this one. |
