It usually works for me. However, in this specific case it seems that there's a black bar on the left side, but none on the right side, is that correct? Even so, madVR should still detect this situation, but it may take longer (several seconds), because madVR is careful not to fall for "false positive" traps, and it's rare that black bars are as unsymmetrical as they seem to be in this specific case. Does the black bar detection still not work if you let this video run for a minute or so? |

I linked both original without cropping and cropped version so that should show both the source and outcome. I left the video to run for a whole 2 hours, left bar still was there, thought it wasn't the same size for the whole movie, size varied from scene to scene (in the source, I believe madvr didn't do anything to it for the whole movie) > it's rare that black bars are as unsymmetrical Pretty a standart case for IMAX movies ripped from 3D source I'd say |

I've seen several IMAX 2D Blu-Rays and none of them had such unsymmetrical black bars. A proper 3D Blu-Ray should not have such black bars, either. Anyway, black bar detection should still be able to handle this situation. Can you provide me with a 2-3 minute sample of this file? |

I've tested the sample and black bar detection works fine for me. Can you make a screenshot of your zoom control settings? The movie file is really weird, though, the black bars keep on changing all the time. I've never seen an IMAX encoding like this before. Hunger Games, Dark Knight, Interstellar etc all have exactly 2 aspect ratios in the whole movie, with exactly the same black bar sizes. |

Sorry, my bad. I've now tested with exactly the same zoom control settings as those in your linked screens, and it still works more or less fine *) for me in MPC-HC. Are you sure that you're using DXVA copyback and not DXVA native or D3D11 native? Because zoom control only works with software decoding or copyback. Also, did you test with the small sample you uploaded instead of the whole file? And it still fails for you? *) It starts out with the black bars completely removed, then switches back to show some black bars, then a couple seconds later removes the bars again completely. So it's far from perfect, but it does generally work. |

I'm sure I'm using DXVA copyback cuz bottom and top bars got cropped fine Just tested sample file again, it seems it does work a little on some left bars... but it's barely noticable and I still see lots of black bars at left with turned on cropping, I wish there was a more agressive method (optional?) for cropping those screen edges which are likely to get messed by random 3D black bars |

I'm not really sure what I can say. It works (mostly) fine on my PC, as I said before. I would need to be able to reproduce a problem in order to improve anything. |

Try seeing whole movie? I'd really need a sample which shows the problem clearly. |
